I am the oldest daugher of Virgil "Wimpy" Reichle.  I am looking for contact information for anyone who was stationed at Camp Swampy with us.  My mother is MaryAnne she was active in the NCO Wives club as well as junior bowling for the dependents.  My Dad coached the baseball team also.  I worked as a bus girl at the NCO club at some period.  My Dad passed away in 1987.

I would love to hear from anyone who attended the many get togethers at our house.  My sibilings and I have the most wonderful memories of the people we met while in Holland and the Dutch people who bacame our friends.  We had contact with a few of my parents friends early on but have lost contact over the years.

Here are some of the names I remember: Jim Schlager, Bob Roth, Ron Birch, Oink Elliott Barry Ratizck, Walt Smith, Lenny Darst, Rick Olesko, Rick Benton, Moby Smith, Dave Stone, Jack Stone, Joe Frolik,Ralph Einser, Dean Walker, Danny Alvey and many others that I only remember their first names.

I also would love to hear from some of the kids I went to school with, Carla Richardson, Robert and Edwin Stradford, Karen Paul, Bonnie Myhaver, Lynda Barr, Debbie Rutherford, Matia Bilbo, Coylynn O'Malley and anyone else who attend the school on base during these years.

I was at Soesterberg from March 1978 until 1982.  I married my Dutch wife Carla, Sept, 1980 and we are stil married and beating each other up daily as required under Dutch law. I returned to NL as a civilian 9 years after my assignment and worked on the economy in Amsterdam. Of course I learned to speak Dutch fluently, which I still enjoy when visiting Schiphol on business.
I go to NL about 4 times each year on business and stay with family in Soesterberg accross/near Apollo housing.
The Mac-D's is still busy on the corner of the Doldersweg and the Amersfoortweg although I was never a fan, prefer a Frikadel-Speciaal at the Automaat in Zeist.  It is great returning to Soesterberg and visiting Zeist, Amersfoort and Utrecht each year.

A small piece of the US in The Netherlands disappeared in 1994. Unfortunately the base is closed since 2008 and officially carried over as of today (Jun 12th 2009) to local authorities. As an aircraft enthusiast I visited Soesterberg many times on air shows.Future will be partly housing, natural reserve and also a new defense museum combining both Army Museum and Air Force Museum (to be completed in 2013). So always a good reason to come back here. You guys and girls (former Wolfhounds) are all welcome! I miss your presence here.
Best regards, Pieter Kuipers

I was sent TDY to the 32nd FIS from the 496th FIS at Hahn Germany, to support operations while the 32nd went to William Tell. It was the best time that I spent in Europe! The Dutch treated us so very nice. I will always remember going to Den Dolder (Der Heinch?? a very friendly bar). Riding bicycles after too many beers and the stern warning from the Dutch police. I toured Holland with A1C Dave Broadway, his girlfriend Ineke wanted us to learn about Holland. We had a great time visiting many different places. Markem, Vollendam, Rotterdam, it was so scenic and everyone was very nice. I guess I forgot to mention flowers and windmills and Amsterdam. A flood of memories thinking about that summer. I have enjoyed visiting your site, a very welll organiized and informational place. Thank you. Dick Vedas  Chandler Arizona USA

Man I sure do miss Soesterberg. My tour got cut short, I had to take a humanitarian assignment back the states to be with my dying Mother. I had a blast. I used to live on the west end in the old 2 story dorm across from the BX and it was next to the gym. I played for the football team while I was there. I live in Tampa, Florida. I'm retired now I see T.J. Payne who played too and worked at the hospital. Big up to Steve Jones (clinic) and Nate, and Big O (Orson) I know everybody remembers Pinocchio's club and that other Hip-Hop spot in Utrecht. Long live Soesterberg!!!

My son collected those little metal airplanes some years ago that cost about $3.00.  I could never find an F15 for myself until yesterday, 25FEB09, it has a "Wolfhounds" decal on it and on the tail is "CR".  I've never forgotten the 32TFS tail designation and I still can't believe I found it.  I just googled 'Air Base Soesterberg' and here I am.  I loved 'Camp Nasty Ass' and spent my entire enlistment there... I would have re-upped there except that the 31651L AFSC was phased out.
